Children and grandchildren of Seabees qualify for an SMSA scholarship. Seabees are enlisted personnel with a Seabee rating; CEC Officers; or others who have served, or are serving, in a Naval Construction Force (Seabee) unit. Seabees can be active, reserve, retired, deceased or honorably discharged. The applicant must currently be a senior in high school or a high school graduate (The applicant may already be in college). Scholarships are awarded for two or four-year college degree programs only and are not granted for graduate study. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, scholastic record, citizenship and leadership. (Scholarships are not available for great-grandchildren.)

Each year, Michigan Sugar Company offers young women an opportunity to represent the company and industry by serving as the Michigan Sugar Queen and Court. At the Michigan Sugar Festival held in Sebewaing in June of each year, a new Michigan Sugar Queen is crowned and given a $2,000 scholarship. Two court attendants are also crowned and each of them receives a $1,000 scholarship. Contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 23 and have lived at least one year in one of the 20 counties in the state of Michigan in which sugarbeets are grown. A general knowledge of the sugarbeet industry and Michigan Sugar Company also is required.

All students enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program are eligible to apply for the Five Millers Scholarship program. Scholarships are awarded to those who have been accepted in vocational or technical programs, 2-year Colleges and 4-year Universities. Scholarship winners are selected by an Advisory Council comprised of community business leaders, supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters and Women's Committee Members.

Undergraduates and graduate students continuing their studies in the fall of 2021 can apply for funding for their educational expenses. Students from the United States and Canada are eligible. All applicants must show proof of admission to a North American educational institution in the fall of 2021. Applicants must either be of South Asian descent (includes: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) or demonstrate a keen interest in covering South Asia and/or the diaspora.
