AARP  Foundation Women’s Scholarship Program

Eligibility: Must be female age 40 by March 31 of the year you apply,  U.S. Citizen, demonstrate financial need, enrolled in an accredited college or technical school within 6 months of the scholarship award date. Can be used for part-time or full-time study. Award can used for any course of study at a public or private secondary school, college, university, community college or technical program. The scholarship will be payable to the institution and can be applied towards tuition, fees and books.

Eligibility and Comments: Scholarship is in memory of Ashley Marie Easterbrook who was killed in Troy by a drunk driver. A scholarship has been established in her name to carry on her desire to help others. Applicants must currently be a high school student or home-schooled in the U.S., graduating in spring of 2010, cumulative 4-year GPA between 3.5 and 3.74 (unweighted), will be attending an accredited 4-year university or college, 500 word essay to be submitted with application, one letter of recommendation from teacher, counsellor or administrator. Preference given to students who have work experience (volunteer or paid) and who are involved in organized programs/activities that help other students improve the quality of their lives.

Tuition Incentive Program (TIP)
Award: TIP provides assistance in two phases: Phase I covers tuition and mandatory fees for eligible applicants at an approved credit-based Michigan community college, public college, independent degree-granting  institution, federally-funded tribal college or Focus Hope. For Phase 1 assistance, applicant must be enrolled in a certificate program or working towards associate degree. Phase 2 assistance provides eligible applicants with up to $2000 dollars towards total tuition at a 4-year in-state college, university or degree-granting program.

Eligibility: Student must meet financial eligibility requirements: Students must have or have had Medicaid coverage for 24 months within a 36-month consecutive period. TIP Eligibility can be confirmed as early as the 6th grade. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, be a Michigan resident as determined by educational institution, receive a high school diploma or G.E.D. before the age of 20, provide evidence of TIP eligibility in the form of a letter to the college or educational institution, be enrolled at least half-time in a program not earning more than 80 semester or 120 term credits.
