Be a dependent child, age 24 and under (as of application deadline) OR Be a spouse of U.S. military service personnel AND Be current high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or vocational or technical school for the academic year. Have at least a 2.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale or its equivalent on their relevant academic record (e.g., high school record for incoming freshmen or post-secondary school record for those already enrolled in a college, university, or vocational or technical school). The Merchants Exchange Scholarship helps students seeking careers in a Maritime field and/or International Trade receive resources for continued education. The scholarship is awarded to students seeking a career in the maritime industry, or with a career, that influences the maritime industry. The scholarship is awarded to students with a minimum 2.5 GPA (or equivalent) and are currently a junior or senior enrolled in a 4-year college/university, or a freshman (first-year) or sophomore (second-year) enrolled in a 2-year institutional degree program, or a graduate student with Maritime Affairs and/or International Trade as their chosen field of study. (total 98/100) To apply, applicants must complete short answer questions, provide certified academic transcripts and submit one (1) letter of recommendation from a professor or direct supervisor.

The SSF grants scholarships up to $20,000 (based upon financial need) to offset tuition costs per year to foundation approved universities or to any top 10 University MBA, Law or Medical program in the nation. This is an extremely competitive scholarship application process. Note: There is an expectation that each participant will willingly volunteer back time and resources in the future to other non-profit organizations or educational institutions that help others in the participant's local community. Speaking about unselfish service, love of country and taking care of others at schools, colleges or universities as well as helping at-risk youth are a few examples of giving back to society; collectively changing our culture for good.

The Chicago Injury Center offers a scholarship for veterans who have suffered a physical or emotional injury. Applicants must plan to or currently be enrolled in trade schools, community colleges or any college or university in the U.S. Applicants must write a 500-plus word essay on challenges they have had to overcome as a veteran with a disability. Veterans must also detail how these challenges have prepared them to succeed in their course of study. Applicants must maintain a 2.5 GPA and provide proof of honorable discharge.
