The purpose of the Foundation is to provide funds for students majoring in education at four-year colleges. The Foundation provides funds to students who have indicated a desire to teach the humanities (e.g., literature, philosophy, fine arts, music, art or poetry) at the elementary and middle school levels. The Foundation prefers to provide funds to students entering their junior (or subsequent) year of college and who are interested in teaching within the State of Missouri in rural rather than metropolitan districts.

The AFCEA Educational Foundation is offering competitive based scholarships of $2,500 each to students actively pursuing a graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) subjects at a U.S. school in grades K-12.%u202FThe scholarships are made possible by generous contributions from ManTech International and AFCEA International. To be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens and living in the United States. Graduate candidates must be attending an accredited U.S. college or university (online students are eligible) and majoring in education for the purpose of teaching STEM subjects in a U.S. school in grades K-12. Graduate-level candidates must be currently taking at least two semester-equivalent classes at an accredited U.S. college or university at the time of application. Current credential and licensure students must have completed a bachelor's of science degree or graduate degree in a STEM major.%u202FExpected graduation/completion date cannot be in the year the scholarship is awarded. Undergraduate students are ineligible to apply.

The grant and scholarship program was created to promote human and civil rights by making our public schools safe for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons. The program was renamed in 2009 in the memory of CTA member and educator Guy DeRosa. Guy was a life long advocate for civil and human rights, particularly gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues. The grants will support projects and presentations that promote understanding and respect for GLBT persons and to support GLBT safety in public schools. As you distribute this information to potential applicants, make sure grant applicants are: A CTA/SCTA member, or A public school student(s) sponsored by a CTA/SCTA member, or A public school district(s) sponsored by a CTA/SCTA member *Autonomous groups and CTA Caucuses are not eligible The scholarship program will support CTA/SCTA members enrolled in a teacher/counseling credential or graduate program who are pursuing a career in public education. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: Plan to teach in North Carolina once their education is completed. Presently be in an education program with an established career plan for teaching (high school students or recent high school graduates are not eligible to apply). Fully complete a series of background history forms present in the application. Provide a recent college or university transcript, three letters of recommendation, and a typed essay which includes: reason for applying, career goals, teaching plans, and reasons why the applicant should receive the Dottie Martin scholarship and the financial burden that would be incurred without the scholarship.

Applicant must be a high school graduating senior during the current academic year, currently enrolled in college, or an adult ready to pursue college in the upcoming academic year.
